I concentrate primarily on commercials, and I have designed quite a few. These range from little comedy spots, to big car commercials with big builds. The great thing about my job is that even on the smallest spot the creative process can be just as fun and stimulating.

I love drawing with a pencil as much as I enjoy building models in my computer, so whatever the project entails I can sit with the director and communicate accurately what I understand to be the director's vision. Sometimes it's a thumbnail, and sometimes it's a dolly-shot .mp4 exported from the model on my laptop. I'm very adept with Sketchup. On many occasions directors will have me take them through the set, place cameras and move walls in real time in the model. More than once I have exported Sketchup frames for storyboard artists, or even the client. I like directors to be happy when they see the set, not surprised. Our collaboration is more effective if we have something pretty tangible to discuss as early as possible.

I've worked on beauty spots, car spots, small comedy spots and big effects spots. I used to do a lot of miniatures and effects work, so I'm very good with scale and forced perspective. I design more and more sets where part of what I have designed is built physically, and part is built in CG. However, what is really fun is using an old-school technique and shooting in-camera something that everyone thought had to be a CG shot.
